Women In Film and Media is committed to helping members of the organization as well as the community and businesses dedicated to the film industry. WIFM supports the community by advocating for the Arts in Pittsburgh through outreach to other non-profits through their PSA Program; to academic institutions through participation in career functions; and to other film-related groups through internships and collaborations.
Public Service Announcement Program
Women in Film and Media reaches out to local charitable organizations helping disadvantaged women and children to collaborate in the making of public service announcements (PSA) that benefit their cause. While the collaboration helps WIFM members and up and coming filmmakers to explore careers in film and television by pairing them with local professionals and fostering the next generation of filmmakers, it also helps in a small but sustained way to improve the condition of women within the community.
Creative Careers Seminar
WIFM participates regularly in panel discussions, educational seminars and career fairs promoting film and other screen-based media to college and high school students. In collaboration with Pittsburgh Arts Employment Partnership, WIFM has advocated for the industry to students of a range of universities in the region, including Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh, Duquesne University, Chatham University and Carlow University.
