2012 Short Film Showcase Competition


Women In Film and Media Pittsburgh is launching their first annual short film competition on July 18, 2012 with the submission deadline of September 28, 2012.  Submissions may be dropped off as late as 6:00 PM – ONLY.

Guidelines:   After filling out the application and paying your entrance fee at, you will receive a confirmation email.   Submit your DVD and a copy of your application to Women In Film and Media, 1739 E. Carson Street, #399, Pittsburgh, PA.  15203.  Test your DVD copy before you send it. You may send a backup copy, but only one DVD is required.

Do not include any artwork on the DVD case, and please do not use labels on the disc of any kind.   Please write only the name of your film and your phone number with a black marker.  Your application will give us the information we need to process your submission.  Your submission must have a completion date AFTER January 2010 and be less than 45 minutes in length.

Two Submission categories:

1)    Under 45 minutes in length will be judged and the top submission will be screened at a date to be determined.

Category One – Your submission in this category should have a woman in one of the following categories:  Director, Producer, Actor, Writer, Director of Photography, Animator and/or Editor.  We encourage submissions featuring strong female characters and stories about women.

2)    Under 15 minutes in length will be judged and the two top submissions will be sent to the Women In Film and Television International (WIFTI) Committee to be judged for entry in the WIFTI International Showcase which will be screened in 23 cities around the world.

Category two – In order for Women In Film and Media Pittsburgh to consider your film for submission to the Women in Film and Television International Short Film Showcase ( , it must adhere to the following eligibility requirements:

“Eligible films will have a completion date after January 2010. They should be under 15 minutes in length and should highlight the work of women in two of the following categories; Director, Producer, Actor, Writer, Director of Photography, Animator, and/or Editor. First preference will be given to film submissions directed by Women.  We encourage submissions featuring strong female characters and stories about women.”

Any violence against women in any form in any film submitted will be rejected.

Women In Film and Media Members:                          $25.00

Students with a current ID:                                              $25.00

Non-Members:                                                                   $40.00

Competition Begins                                                          July 18, 2012

Competition Ends                                                             September 28, 2012

The top films submitted and chosen by the WIFM Short Film Competition Committee will choose a set number of films to be screened on a date to be determined.  The number and length will be determined based on what has been submitted and time restrictions for the screenings.
