Mayor Luke Ravenstahl’s ‘Proclamation Thursday’

(PITTSBURGH) March 27, 2008 – In honor of Women’s History Month, Mayor Luke Ravenstahl awarded proclamations to three outstanding professional women and women’s associations. From the local chapter of Women in Film & Media (WIFM), Faith Dickinson, the executive director of WIFM, accepted the proclamation on behalf of the local chapter. WIFM Promotes the City to the film world, bringing more than $20 million into the City through film production.

The most important tool an Independent Filmmaker can use today is a film festival. For a film to be seen is crucial in making a deal for its final destination.

We got to meet some real go-getter women the other night at the first Women in Film and Media Opal Awards. The event honored women in film and television, including late KDKA news anchor Patti Burns and Los Angeles-based producer Suzanne DeLaurentiis, who’s filmed several movies here and has encouraged others to do the same.

WHEREAS, on October 16, 2007, Women in Film and Media Pittsburgh (WIFM) will be hosting their first Opal Awards to honor local women who have made an impact in television and film. . . .

In the 41st hour after Mike Hough picked up the details of the film he had to complete in 48 hours . . “It’s perfect for us, it’s perfect for anyone,” said Faith Dickinson, the team leader from Women in Film and Media, who showed up with a baker’s dozen volunteers to make their movie.
